It suits CUVs, SUVs, wagons and most truck beds, so fitment comes down to your bars. The sleeping and living kit is already in the tent: [card] Mattress, Mat And Washable Cover A high-density foam mattress sits on a 3D anti-condensation mat. The mattress cover is removable, with a soft top and a polyester base, and it is machine washable. Inside, LED strip lighting runs off an on and off switch placed where you can reach it easily. Will this fit an aftermarket rack instead of factory crossbars?

Yes. The Ursa 1300 Rooftop Tent generally fits third-party racks as well as factory crossbars, provided you use the tent bracket clamps made for the rack you own. [card] Get The Clamps From Your Rack's Manufacturer The clamp that joins the tent to your bars is the rack maker's part rather than one of ours. Prinsu, for example, makes tent bracket clamps that suit the way our tents mount, and most platform rack builders offer an equivalent for theirs. [/card] [card] The Mounting Is Fairly Universal Our mounting solution fits these third-party racks without issues, so the tent side is rarely what holds a build up. The Ursa 1300 includes all mounting hardware for its own half of the joint. [/card] We haven't tested every rack on the market, so confirm the clamps suit your specific rack before you order.

How do I keep mold and mildew out of the canvas?

The rule that matters most on the Ursa 1300 Rooftop Tent is never to close it while the fabric is damp. Canvas folded into a shut hardshell has nowhere to dry, and mildew can take hold in a couple of warm days. [card] Dry It Fully Before You Close It Leave the tent open in sun or moving air until the canvas, the seams and the underside of the mattress are dry to the touch. The 3 windows are there to cut condensation overnight, so use them and there is less to dry off in the morning. [/card] [card] Air It Out After A Wet Trip If you had to pack up in rain, open the tent again at home and let it dry completely before it goes back into storage. Heavy overnight condensation counts as wet. [/card] [card] Treat Marks Early Spotting is far easier to clean while it is fresh. The removable mattress cover is machine washable, so that layer can be dealt with on its own. [/card]

How does it handle rain and cold weather?

The Ursa 1300 Rooftop Tent covers both: roll-away window awnings and a protective fly for wet weather, and a heater hose inlet for cold nights. [card] Rain And The Elements The front and side entry window awnings, or window covers, roll out over the openings to help protect from the elements, so you can leave a window cracked for airflow while it is raining. The star-gazing sky windows sit under a protective fly you roll back only when you want the view. [/card] [card] Cold Nights The heater hose inlet lets an external heat source such as a diesel heater feed warm air in while the unit itself stays outside the tent. The same fitting is a heater and AC hose inlet, so it covers winter warming and summer cooling from one port rather than two. [/card] 3 windows give you the ventilation to keep condensation down, and the 3D anti-condensation mat keeps air moving under the mattress, the layer where moisture shows up first on a cold night.

I’ve had this tent for

I’ve had this tent for a few months now and generally love it. The woven materials are high quality, and it kept us warm on a chilly night. I question the longevity of the plastic hard top, only because it’s so thin. I would recommend UV coating it yearly. The indent for a solar panel is nice, but personally I wouldn’t risk leaks from drilling into the hardtop to mount one. My biggest gripe is fear of future support and upgradability. I had planned to add the annex eventually, but apparently they already discounted that product. This is a bummer because I would have gone a different direction had I known this was a possibility.

Pros. . .
- very spacious for both my wife and I. She is 52 and I'm 47 and we feel very comfortable with the available space.
- the collapsible ladder has been so solid and easy to operate. I weight 185lb and I feel very secure climbing up and down.
- strong/sturdy construction where we have been in +30mph wind gusts and it has taken it like a champ. My rainfly did tear a bit, but it has already sustained a bit of damage where it ended up tearing on that windy day. Still, it has held very well after that.
- plenty strong inside lighting from the two LED strips, plus the outside strips are just perfect. We use a 10k mAh battery with two USB-A ports and it works so well.
- the inside elastic mesh keeps bedding well organized and accessible.
- the plastic outer shell is flexible and has sustained quite a good amount of impacts from tree branches and has held up very well. It did crack slightly very close to one of the rivets, but it has not gotten any bigger. My truck does sleep outside so the tent does get a beating with the sun.
- the color combination this tent has looks so damn cool!!!

Cons. . .
- its heavy. Obviously I knew this before purchasing it, but it's a good idea to invest in a sturdy bed rack.
- the gas shocks could be a bit stronger. They do the job, but a bit more strength on them would be great.
- the mattess. . . it's not bad, but we ended up adding a 2 inch gel foam mattress topper and now it is so much better.

Trust me though, the negatives to not take away anything from this tent. We've enjoyed it so much and I know we will for years to come.

The tent was nice, I called a few times and was greeted with great customer service. Delivery was quick and painless. 4 star only due to a few cosmetic blemishes when unpacking the tent. Looks like it was residual from when it was originally packaged. Besides that everything was in great working order.

This is the second Ursa

This is the second Ursa 1300 for our family. The first one I got for my 17-year-old son who spends the majority of his free time camping and hiking where we live in Idaho. After seeing the quality of his, I decided to get my own. I installed it on my new Tacoma using a Cali Raised bed rack (low profile) as I spend 2 to 3 days every week in the backcountry of Idaho in Montana FlyFishing. I used it for the first time just one night this past weekend so I would get to know the ins and outs and functionality and best set up for me. So far so good, however the lack of any manual , instruction, guide, or tips and tricks directly from the manufacturer, made it a little frustrating when I was trying to figure a few things out. I usually resort to YouTube however, the only real system information comes from creators and not the manufacturer itself other than short promotional videos. I did navigate to the library of PDF documents on your website however they are limited for new users. I would highly recommend ramping up informational videos for people like themselves. You can even reach out to people who recently bought them and asked if they were interested in helping you create content. This would be an easy collaborative effort from the manufacturer and the new user who has the data of what would be needed.

The 1300 is perfect for my wife and and we have enjoyed roof top camping after years ground based experiences. The setup is fast and tear down even faster.

So far this tent has been perfect! The installation was easy and it is perfect for my short bed Tacoma. I mounted it on my TRUKD rack just below the roof life of the truck. It's easily deployable and folda up in no time. I camped for a few nights just in my back yard. The coldest night dropped into the 30s and with the proper layers, I stayed perfectly warm! Can't wait to try it in the real world. Also, driving with the tent on hasn't made any difference in noise or gas mileage which is great too. The only thing I would say is, how about a sticker or patch next time?!

Tent has tons of accessories and carefully crafted. Mattress was amazing and spacious that allowed me and my partner to sleep comfortably all night. I specially love the heater vent which made it very easy to feed and setup the hose. Very happy with our new RTT.

Great tent!

I love the tent, and how easy it is to open up and close. The only issue i have with it is that it doesn't seal good on the hinge side when closed. Nothing a strap or a bungee cord won't fix.

Better than expected

I looked at a couple used tents in person and watched many YouTube videos reviewing practically every tent on the market. For some reason I had not learned about Iron Man until the week we were going to place our order. Everything seemed to suit our needs so we bought it. We installed it on a Honda Passport and climbed up in it a couple times but have not slept in it overnight yet. I will say that every little detail that I noticed about it makes me go wow that was a good way to do that. For example, the windows are closed by first zipping the screen closed and then zipping the solid material closed inside of the screen. So in this way one can open and close the opaque flap to suit ventilation or light management while not needing to open the screen and let bugs in.

Missing Parts

I do love the tent and its quality is great. When it arrived though it was missing the boot bags/backpacks. When I contacted Ironman they didn't believe me it was missing them and then said they don't even have the new style bag to send me. They sent me the old style and told me to contact them in the future to see if they have the new ones to send me. Will update my review if I ever receive the items I was supposed to get.
