Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent

Q: What's included, and does it come with the hardware to install on a rack?

Yes, all mounting hardware comes with the Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent . The rest of what is in the box is the sleeping and living kit: [card] High-Density Foam Mattress Included with the tent for support and comfort through a full night, rather than an add-on you buy separately. [/card] [card] Retractable Ladder Handles entry and exit and retracts for storage, so it is not a loose item you have to find room for in the vehicle. [/card] [card] LED Strip Lighting And Storage Pockets LED strip lighting runs off an on and off switch that is easy to reach, and internal storage pockets take glasses, books, phones and clothing. [/card] [info] Also fitted: integrated star-gazing sky windows, a skylight built into the roof with a protective fly you roll back, and roll-away window awnings over the front and side windows. [/info]

Q: How does it handle rain and cold weather?

The Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent has a heater and AC hose inlet for cold nights and roll-away window awnings for wet ones. For cold weather, the inlet takes an external heat source such as a diesel heater: the unit itself stays outside on the ground and only the hose comes through into the tent. The same fitting takes an AC hose when the weather turns the other way, so one port covers winter warming and summer cooling. [info] Rain and condensation: the front and side window awnings, or window covers, roll out to help protect from the elements, so you can keep a window cracked for airflow while it is wet outside. 3 windows in total is what gives you the ventilation to keep condensation down, and the protective fly rolls back over the star-gazing sky windows only when you want the view. Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent FAQ

The Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent fits to the crossbars, roof rack or bed rack already on your vehicle, all mounting hardware is included, and its soft shell casing is compact for most CUVs, wagons, SUVs and truck beds.

[card]

Start With The Dynamic Rating

What decides it is the load your rack is approved to carry while the vehicle is moving. That dynamic rating is published separately from the static rating that applies when parked, and it is the lower of the two. Factory bars, an aftermarket rack and a bed rack each carry their own figure.

[/card]

[card]

Allow For The Open Footprint

The Cross 1200 MK2 is a folding design that doubles its footprint when open, so it reaches past the side of the vehicle. Think about where you park and whether that overhang clears a trailer, a low branch or the rig next to you.

[/card]

You will also want level ground on the side it folds out to, and room to swing the retractable ladder down.

Yes. The Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent generally fits third-party racks, not only factory crossbars. The condition is the tent bracket clamps: they have to be the ones made for your rack, and they come from that rack's manufacturer.

[card]

Prinsu As The Example

Prinsu makes tent bracket clamps that suit how our tents mount. Other rack builders offer their own equivalent, so start with the accessory range for the rack you already own.

[/card]

[card]

Why It Usually Works

Our mounting is fairly universal and fits these third-party racks without issue, and the Cross 1200 MK2 includes all mounting hardware for the tent side of the joint. Whichever rack you use, its own dynamic weight rating still decides whether a rooftop tent can be carried, so check that figure alongside the clamps.

[/card]

We haven't tested every rack on the market, so confirm the clamps suit your rack before ordering.

[/info]

Never fold the Cross 1200 MK2 Rooftop Tent away damp. It is a soft shell that packs a large area of fabric into a small case, so any moisture you close in stays there until you next open it.

[card]

Dry It Before Pack-Down

Give the canvas time in sun or wind before you fold it, and check the seams, the floor corners and the fabric under the mattress. The 3 windows help reduce condensation overnight, so leave them open when the weather allows and there is less to dry.

[/card]

[card]

Open It Again After A Wet Trip

If you broke camp in rain, set the tent back up at home and let it dry fully before it goes into storage. An afternoon on the driveway is usually enough, and it saves the fabric.

[/card]

Treat any mildew spotting as soon as it appears. It is much easier to clean early than after the tent has been folded away for a season.
